Getting Started with Animate
Create your first explainer video from idea to finished first draft in an afternoon. No design experience needed.
Log in and create a new project
When you log in to SkillGround you land on the dashboard. Click "New Project" in the top right. Select "Explainer Video" as the project type. Give the project a descriptive name - for example "Onboarding - Safety Procedures" - and choose the language you want to produce in.
The project is created instantly and you land in the editor. You can always change name and language later in the project settings.
Write or generate your script
Every video starts with a script. You have two options:
- Write it yourself in the script editor. Use one clip per key message, roughly 10 seconds per clip. - Use the AI Script Assistant. Describe the topic in a couple of sentences - for example "We need a video about how new employees report workplace incidents." Claude generates a first draft with the right length and structure.
Regardless of which option you choose, you can edit each clip's text at any time.
Choose visual style and add animations
SkillGround has over 3,000 ready-made animation blocks in the Draft Library. Once the script is ready you can:
- Use AI Autofill which matches visual blocks to your text automatically. - Choose blocks manually by searching the library.
The Tag Highlight system marks keywords in the text and suggests matching visual elements. You can try different styles - switch the visual theme for the entire video with a single click.
Add narration with Perfect-Sync
When script and visuals are in place, add narration. Choose from SkillGround's AI voices or upload a recording.
The Perfect-Sync feature automatically adjusts all visual elements to follow the narrator's tempo. If the narrator speaks more slowly in a certain part, the clip stretches out. Faster speech gives tighter timing. The result is a video where picture and sound feel synchronised without any manual timing work.
Preview, export and share
Click "Preview" to watch the entire video from start to finish. Review flow, timing and tone.
When you are happy you can:
- Export as MP4 for uploading to your LMS or intranet. - Share via a direct link that works in any browser. - Build further into a course in the Build module with quiz questions and interactive elements.
Your first video typically takes one to two hours. With practice you will get down to under an hour per video.
